WHITE DENIM @EOTR

'White Denim' released their most recent album 'D' back in May and their new single 'Is And Is And Is' comes out on the 5th September. Kate Mahony caught up with the four piece rock band from Austin, Texas, on the last leg of their UK tour.

Q: Describe your sound in one word?
A: Energetic, I guess?

Q: What brought you together?
A: Well, the drummer (Josh) and I have known eachother for about 12 years. I met him in a rehearsal space. He moved to Austin in 2002, and I did in 2004 and we started working as a band from then. We recruited Steve from 'Peach Train' to join our group... we sort of met playing around in the circuit, and that’s how we picked up Austin too, in 2010.

Q: What's your creative process like?
A: Well, we actually don’t jam that much so, I write a lot of the tunes and record them at my house. Then I email the tracks to them and they say 'I like this' or 'this could be a tune'…

Then after everyone kind of familiarises themselves with the material, we get together in the rehearsal rooms and tape that and run that demo. That’s one of the most exciting things of being in a band; trying to apply new ideas and sounds.

Q: What are your plans for the next few months?
A: Well next week we're going on another American tour for a while, which should be good, so just working! I feel really lucky to be here and be busy right now.

Q: Who is the most annoying on tour?
A: Well I think each of us would probably have a different answer for that. I don’t know if the other guys get to see this... Everybody does their best to get along living together under these circumstances. Some people have certain traits but it doesn’t mean they're bad. I’m being diplomatic! [Laughs.]

We try our best to be nice to each other, but not always. I think I’m probably the meanest in the band. I think I might be the boss. Yeah... well, it's definitely not a tyrannical rein. You know, everybody definitely has a significant voice and everything we do is certainly unanimous.
